Supporting the growth of our local football club

Context has been providing development support recently to Charlton Rovers AFC, our local grassroots football club. Charlton Rovers is one of the largest clubs in the area with teams ranging from U9 up to senior squads. Unfortunately they have never had their own ground and have been using shared facilities for matches and training.

Having acquired a superb site to the east of Cheltenham at Shipton Oliffe, the relevant permissions were required to demolish a dilapidated building and replace it with a suitable clubhouse. With the site located in the AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and in the vicinity of Grade II listed buildings, we instructed our expert colleagues at Plainview Planning to prepare and manage the application. They presented a clear case to Cotswold District Council, focusing on both the social and economic benefits of the scheme, and they engaged positively with the local parish council. Full planning permission was subsequently granted.

With funding to grassroot sports so very limited, Context was more than happy to fund the planning application process in support of this local community asset. Charlton Rovers continue to seek funding and support for the next stage of this project; you can read more about it here. With a personal connection to the current u12 team, we are looking forward to enjoying the new facilities in the not too distant future.
