Affordable parish housing for parish families
← BackRural populations can be quite opposed to new developments in their locales. Concerns over design, second home ownership and the fact that new developments can be beyond the reach of those who grew up in the area are all valid.
The affordability issue is one that Context aims to tackle. If new homes were both more affordable and also available only to extended parish families, this could help keep village services viable, allow local families to remain in their area and contribute to council’s housing needs.
We can assist local landowners who wish to realise the potential of a site but without compromising their community in working with Parish Councils to bring forward developments that benefit all parties.
This has recently become more straightforward as the NPPF has included discounted sale home ownership as a type of affordable housing. Previously, Registered Social Landlords (RSL) were reluctant to get involved in small schemes and this resulted in affordable housing only being built on big estates. This change in the NPPF now allows a normal developer to build homes and sell them for less. Ultimately this should result in far more varied affordable housing provision, including small developments in rural locations.
